4 films,3 books, 2 star crossed lovers and a cat. The Hunger Games series has officially ended ( what's that I hear?Just the sounds of our hearts breaking!) but it finished on what can only be described as "the perfect ending" - as cliche as that may be.
Now there's no denying I will be biased towards this film as I love the books, the films, the cast and directors and producers; I even went to the Mockingjay Double Feature at midnight to see this film! But I cannot express how happy I am with the magic that embodies Mockingjay Part 2.
The film starts straight where it left us hanging in Part 1 when a hijaked Peeta Mellark has been tricked into thinking Katniss is a capitol mutt and attacks her. Seeing Peeta in such a polar opposite state to what he usually is is one of the most heart tearing parts in this film. All of the cast as exceptional in the film but a special recognition is definitely in order for Josh Hutcherson. The usual kind, caring Peeta is a whole other person from how the capitol have now changed him to be and Josh can U-turn in and out of this challenging task with ease to really convey to audiences that he is so desperately trying to regain his own 'normality'. Its fascinating, but destroying, to watch when the penny finally drops in Peeta that he has changed and that the capitol have achieved his worst nightmare...being a piece in their games. Hutcherson is brilliant and highly regarded in my eyes but I just hope that other members see how his portrayal in this movie can lead him on to many versatile roles in the future.
As Mockingjay Part 1 was quite a slow build up I was pleased that we quickly escaped from D13 into D2 within at least half an hour into the movie. I felt like I was right beside Katniss and her main aim to assassinate Snow and lets all be honest for a second, I'm sick of seeing those unflattering grey jumpsuits that everyone looks just as miserable as Coin in! Obviously, The Hunger Games are great at very aesthetic sets to transfer our minds into a different world and this title was hugely affirmed yet again in the epic finale.
Highlight moments throughout this film:
Katniss&Prim's dance at the O'dair wedding. Beautifully shot, one of the many reasons why I adore Francis Lawrence's work
.Johanna and her sassy answers when visiting Everdeen in the hospital had me cracking up,gotta love her smugness.
Three finger salute when Katniss arrives of her own accord to fight.
Peeta and Katniss' speech at night (painter, sleeping, tea scene)
Bogg's death made me cry like a fool! Reminded me a lot of Rue's death scene, full of appreciation for Katniss' main goal.
FINNICK NOPE NOPE.
Pollux crying hit me hard.
REAL OR NOT REAL first time.
STAY WITH ME.
Tigris' makeup is on fleeeeek (although disappointed she only has 1 line).
Loving how many hugs Everlark are getting, you see both characters relax as soon as they are in each others arms.
OMG KATNISS THAT PEACEKEEPER NEARLY CAUGHT YOU!
Am I at Niagara Falls? No its just my eyes leaking because of Prim</3.
Peeta grabbing Katniss' nightlock pill after shooting Coin was perfect
Yes! Finally! Katniss has got rid of Gale!
HAYFFIE!!
Then the last ending of the movie including the growing together scene and epilogue was by far my favourite. If you haven't guessed already I'm Team Peeta and an Everlark shipper. I was kind of disappointed when reading reviews before i saw the film so I did lower my expectations but they exceeded the highest of high expectations i ever had! It was beautiful to see them finally allow each other to love again after the torturous turmoil they've had the past couple of years. The epilogue. Can I put into words seeing ho perfect Mummy Katniss and Daddy Peeta were. I think not. Just know that you will forever be an Everlark/Joshifer shipper from this day on.
And there we have it. The girl on fire is now at home with the one person she cannot survive without and her to little bubba's (played by Jennifer Lawrence's own nephews Bear and Theodore). Bittersweet is the only term to describe this feeling, just like the Harry Potter emotion. Regardless of the ending, we will always these stories these films and the special message that every revolution begins with a spark. Especially in light of recent events in Paris,Lebone and many other countries/cities, this idea that even one small girl from an unknown city can have a voice that touches and reaches out to millions is so inspiring that I also believe Lawrence carries throughout her life and I look up to her just as much as I look up to Katniss.
Our golden trio of books and golden trio of actors,Lawrence,Hutcherson&Hemsworth, have now finished their journey and their friendship is one I will sorely sorely miss seeing in interviews but the knowledge that they will still remain besties and hang out will carry me through the dark days(lets hope Liam can try and get another selfie with them for instagram!).
If you haven't seen Mockingjay Part 2 please do, you will be pleasantly surprised at the scale of this film and how its a satisfying closure. I LOVE THIS FILM is my final review and yes...I have already pre-ordered the movie on DVD. Go enjoy yourself and remember in the words of Miss Effie Trinket
May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favours
